Just like a computer, printers have both volatile memory (like computer RAM) which gets lost when you turn the printer off and non-volatile memory (like computer hard drives) which sticks around until it's deleted. To purge volatile memory, just unplug your printer for 60 seconds or more.

Printing is paused immediately when an ink cartridge becomes empty. Printing pauses, so colors may be uneven. To prevent uneven colors, ensure that a sufficient amount of ink remains before you begin printing.

Based on my home printer (Brother), it can last up to 4-6 months even a year without printing. Just remember to do print head cleaning and print test page before printing again.Apr 27, 2020
